Years 8 to 10: Digital Technology
In Years 8 to 10, our Digital Technologies program is designed to engage and inspire students to think critically, problem-solve creatively, and explore the possibilities of technology in everyday life. This program lays the foundation for understanding digital systems, developing coding skills, and cultivating a design-thinking mindset.
Key Learning Areas:
Coding and Programming: Learn the basics of programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or HTML/CSS, and create interactive websites, games, and simple applications.
Digital Systems and Data: Understand how digital systems work, including hardware, software, networking, and data management.
Design and Innovation: Explore user-centred design and problem-solving techniques and develop innovative digital solutions for real-world challenges.
Cyber Safety and Ethics: Learn how to navigate the online world responsibly and securely, while understanding the ethical implications of technology use.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Participate in group projects that simulate real-world scenarios, preparing students for future studies and careers in technology.
Through engaging projects, hands-on activities, and collaborative challenges, students build foundational digital literacy skills to prepare them for senior secondary studies in IT or other technology-related pathways.
Year 11 and 12: Certificate III in Information Technology (VET)
For senior students, our school offers the Certificate III in Information Technology, a nationally recognised qualification that equips students with the skills required to succeed in the IT industry or pursue further studies. This program focuses on practical, real-world learning experiences and encourages students to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
Program Highlights:
Industry-Recognised Qualification: Upon completion, students receive a Certificate III in Information Technology, which can be used for future employment or as a stepping stone to further study.
Real-World Problem Solving: Students gain hands-on experience by working with industry-standard tools, managing digital projects, and solving IT-related challenges.
Student IT Help Desk: As part of this program, students have the opportunity to volunteer their time at the Student IT Help Desk, located in the school library. During second break, these students assist staff and peers with technology-related queries, troubleshoot issues, and support the onboarding of new students to the school's IT systems.
Onboarding Support Program (optional): Year 11 and 12 IT students also provide invaluable support to the school's IT team by volunteering during lunch breaks to assist in onboarding new students. They help set up devices, guide new students through logging into school systems, and offer personalised assistance to ensure everyone starts the school year with confidence.
Career-Ready Skills: Students develop proficiency in IT support, customer service, troubleshooting, and communication, giving them a competitive edge for future employment in IT and technology industries. This course provides opportunities for several career pathways, such as ICT officer/technician, help desk officer, digital media assistant, junior digital content creator, assistant animator (game development), junior web developer, multimedia assistant, and more.
