Excellence at Our School
Bray Park State High School aims to empower students to become lifelong learners and prepare them for the successful transition into work or further study.
We provide many opportunities for all of our students to extend their academic, sporting or cultural talents through a wide range of co-curricular activities and excellence programs.
At Bray Park State High School, our Excellence Programs embody a commitment to fostering exceptional talents and nurturing the potential within each student. Our vision is to cultivate a dynamic learning environment that empowers students to excel academically, athletically, and artistically. The cornerstone of our excellence programs lies in our dedication to Bray Innovate (STEM), Volleyball Excellence, and Music X.
Bray Innovate (STEM Excellence)
The Bray Innovate STEM program, spanning Years 7-9, seeks to enhance students' proficiency in Science, Design & Technology, Art, and Mathematics, fostering a mindset to 'Challenge the Unknown.' Through project-based learning, the program aims to deepen their understanding, cultivate general STEM capabilities, and instil 21st Century skills. The overarching goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for learning and offering opportunities for engagement and extension.
Program Structure
Accepted students in the Bray Innovate STEM program will embark on a 3-year accelerated course from Year 7 to Year 9, dedicating extra time to enriching projects aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Notable timetable exceptions include:
- Year 8 students focusing on Media Arts in Semester 2 instead of Dance.
- In Year 9, students choose Bray Innovate as an elective, limiting them to two other semester-based electives.
The program emphasises inquiry-based learning within real-life contexts, contingent upon meeting ongoing academic and behavioural expectations.
Program Benefits
The Bray Innovate program offers a dynamic and enriching learning experience with a STEM focus, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, alongside interdisciplinary learning and project-based approaches. It aims to prepare students for future STEM-related careers by developing practical skills and fostering a holistic understanding of complex concepts.
MusicX (Music Excellence)
MusicX is a specialist program for students in Grades 7 and 8 who demonstrate excellence on their instrument of choice (including voice). The program is tailored to suit students with prior music experience, taking them well beyond the standard music content and skills taught to like-aged students in the mainstream curriculum. MusicX is designed for students who have already received tuition on their primary instrument. Students need to be having lessons on their primary instrument either privately or through the school's Co-Curricular Music Program.
Program Structure
Entry into the MusicX class is application-based and students may be required to perform a piece of music as part of an audition process. Participants develop a deep understanding of music while significantly advancing their instrumental or vocal skills. MusicX is currently run in Semester 1 of both Grade 7 and Grade 8. Students complete the Grade 7 MusicX class instead of the mainstream compulsory arts elective of Visual Art (7), Dance (7), Drama (8) and Music (8).
Program Benefits
The MusicX program enhances students' musical abilities through specialised training, focused practice sessions, exposure to a wide range of musical genres, fosters significant growth in instrumental or vocal skills while also encouraging creativity and artistic expression. The class also brings together like‑minded students, helping them build strong rapport, collaboration, teamwork, and ensemble skills, within a supportive environment that promotes confidence, peer learning and a shared passion for music.
Volleyball Excellence
The Volleyball Excellence Program at Bray Park SHS strives to create a community of student athletes who are committed to elevating both their volleyball skills and personal growth. With a focus on holistic development, we celebrate their passion for volleyball while embracing characteristics such as humility and teamwork. The program aims to foster an environment where every individual thrives on and off the court.
Program Structure
Curriculum classes (Aligned with HPE Australian Curriculum):
- Year 7 - Semester 2 class
- Year 8, 9 & 10 - year-long class
