Business Department
Business education comprises business and legal studies subjects which helps secondary students manage finances, make informed decisions, and understand their legal rights and responsibilities. The curriculum includes practical applications of consumer and financial literacy, legal skills and fostering higher-order thinking skills.
Junior Secondary
- Year 8 Economics and Business introduces budgeting, taxation, and market influences. It includes investigating economic issues and data interpretation, providing a foundation for further studies.
- Year 9 Economics and Business covers financial risks, competitive advantages, and global market interdependence. Students learn about Australia's financial sector and trade patterns.
- Year 9 Civics and Citizenship explores Australia's legal and government systems and the role of civic participation. Topics include the Constitution, policy development, and media influence, preparing students for senior Legal Studies.
Senior School
- Year 10 Business and Legal Studies provides a thorough introduction to business and legal concepts, including economic indicators, workforce management, and Australia's legal system. This year-long subject covers business fundamentals and legal studies over two semesters.
- Year 10 Certificate I in Workplace Skills (VET) offers practical skills in business environments, including workplace safety, communication, and digital skills. It includes six competencies assessed over four projects which provides students with two credit points towards their QCE.
- Years 11 and 12 Subjects
- Business (ATAR) covers the business life cycle, including creation, growth, and competitive strategies. Assessments involve exams and business reports each contributing to the final grade.
- Legal Studies (ATAR) examines the role of law in society, covering criminal and civil law, governance, and human rights. Assessments include exams, reports, and essays, each contributing to the final grade.
- Certificate III in Business (VET) develops skills in marketing, customer service, and management through practical projects. Students complete thirteen competencies and earn eight credit points towards their QCE.
There are also many opportunities when studying business and legal studies subjects to participate in excursions or programs such as visiting the Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts, Griffith University Business Ambassadors program, participating in mock trials and listening to guest speakers such as educational officers from the Supreme Court Library with many more opportunities also to come.
